Representation Assessment

There are a number of different ways that you can assess your students’ understanding of representation. I’m a big fan of using a range of different assessment tasks such as written assignments, essays and presentations. Of course, this is a good opportunity to prepare students for the Year 12 Media exam. I like to give my students an exam-style assessment task at the end of their unit on representation. It’s a good opportunity to prepare them for this style of assessment, develop their study skills and ensure that they know their stuff!

Here are some examples of assessment tasks you might use to assess your students’ understanding of representation. I’ve also provided sample answers because I think these are an important part of illustrating the qualities of a good response. Consider collecting exemplars of student work that you can show students in the future.
