Triangles
Any shot with three points of interest – such as the faces of actors – naturally forms a triangle that will lead your viewer’s eye around the frame.
In The Shawshank Redemption, shown above, director Frank Darabont has arranged his three actors so their faces form the points of a triangle.
In so me cases, rather than forming the points of a triangle, actors and props combined might create the fill of a triangle.
In either case, triangles allow you to create aesthetically pleasing and evocative images that direct the viewer’s eye around the frame.
